The Southern Star observation wheel, the hugely anticipated new Melbourne tourism attraction is set to re open in 2011.

The Southern Star will be the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and will showcase incredible views overlooking Melbourne’s CBD, Victoria Harbour and beyond.

December 2008
The Wheel was officially opened at Docklands with a huge fireworks celebration and much fanfare. Excitement surrounding this new attraction was high and people flocked to Docklands to be the first to get on board the ride.

January 2009
The Wheel was closed down in January 2009 after an unexpected wave of hot weather engulfed Melbourne, this heat affected the Wheel and it has to be closed and afterwards dismantled.
