Year-long wait as scrapped wheel is rebuilt
MOST of Docklands' massive ferris wheel has been sold for scrap and it is being rebuilt from scratch to a new design, leaving the struggling precinct without a centrepiece for at least another 10 months.

Southern Star to have new design
Docklands’ Southern Star Observation Wheel will return with a slightly different design. A spokesperson said the wheel’s operators were taking the opportunity to improve on the structure which failed in January this year...

Melbourne's ferris wheel down for a year
Meisho Corporation to repair it off-site. Southern Star refused to comment further, but its chairman… fanfare shortly before Christmas. However, the Docklands tourist attraction shut down a month later… The wheel's closure has also hurt Docklands retail and restaurant owners, which have lost expected flow-on business....
